About clothing an hourglass type figure…

Before you use the resources on this page, you need to understand how I use the term “hourglass type figure”. I prescribe to Imogen Lamport’s methodology of defining body types. Her post “Body Shapes Explained” helped me understand body types are fluid, and come with variations – and she gives great advice about how to identify those variations and deal with them.

I have compiled this list from many sources – web comments, Facebook posts, and other busty bloggers like Thin and Curvy, Hourglassy, and The Butterfly Collection (among many others I will list as I remember), as well as my personal experiences. If you have any suggestions, please let me know!

Here is a list of designers and stores that stock clothes for figures that trend more hourglass (more than 7″ waist to hip; 7″ hip to bust ratio).

Adrianna Papell – 8″ waist to bust; 10″ waist to hip

a.n.a. (JC Penney) – 8-9 1/2″ waist to bust; 10 1/2″-12″ waist to hip. As far as I can tell, this is a JC Penney exclusive line. I find this brand fits me very well.

Anthropologie – 8″ waist to bust; 10″ waist to hip

Ashley Nell Tipton Design – 4-10″ waist to bust; 6-12″ waist to hip. Plus size clothes that can accommodate an hourglass figure.

Bebe – 10 1/2″ waist to bust; 14 1/2″ waist to hip

BiuBiu – up to approximately 13″ waist to bust; approximately 10″ waist to hip

Carissa Rose – from 7 1/2″ to 10 1/2″ waist to bust

Caslon – 8″ waist to bust; 10″ waist to hip. As far as I can tell, this is a Nordstrom line.

Columbia – 10″ waist to bust; 9 1/2″ waist to hip

DDAtelier – 12 1/2″ waist to bust; 11.5 waist to hip

Eddie Bauer – 8″ waist to bust; 10″ waist to hip

Eliza J – 9 1/2″ waist to hip; 11 1/2″ waist to hip. Available at Nordstrom’s.

Express – 7 1/2″ – 9″ waist to bust; 10 1/2″ -12 1/2″ waist to hip

Jailyn Apparel – 8 1/2″ – 11 1/2″ waist to bust

Jones New York Woman – 9″ waist to bust; 12″ waist to hip

Karen Kane – 7 3/4″ waist to bust; 10 1/4″ waist to hip

Liz Claiborne – 8-9 1/2″ waist to bust; 10 1/2″-12″ waist to hip. This Liz Claiborne line is sold exclusively by JC Penney. I find it technically fits; however, it can be a bit boxy on me. There is a Liz Claiborne New York sold by QVC and their size chart shows a smaller waist/bust, waist/hip ratio.

Maurice’s – 9 1/2″ waist to bust; 11 1/2″ waist to hip

Max Studio – 9 1/2″ – 10″ waist to bust; 10″ waist to hip

New York & Company – 8″ waist to bust; 10″ waist to hip.

Nygard – 9″ waist to bust; 9″ waist to hip

Pepperberrry – up to approximately 12″ waist to bust; approximately 9″ waist to hip

Presenza – 8″-10″ waist to bust; 11″ waist to hip

Saint Bustier – 8″ waist to bust; 11″ waist to hip

Shabby Apple – Numbered sizes 1x, 2x – 5″-10″ waist to bust; 7 1/2″ – 10 waist to hip. Lettered sizes 7″-9″ waist to bust; 8-10 waist to hip.

Shoxie – 8-11″ waist to hip; 7-8″ waist to bust – including plus sizes (which is unusual).

Tadashi Shoji – 8 1/2″ waist to bust; 10″ waist to hip. Also available at Nordstrom’s.

Trashy Diva – 9″ – 10″ waist to bust for most styles

Under Armour – up to 10″ waist to bust; up to 10″ waist to hip
